Solo MicroPump Demo Unit

The universe works in strange ways. On a day when I spent a couple of hours on hold or on the phone with Medtronic to straighten out the details of a pump supply order that was originally placed on July 8th, 2009 (not a joke!), I received this in the mail:

From Solo Pump Pictures

I’ll try it out next time I change my infusion set. I want to put it on at the same time as a new set so I can compare the efficacy of the adhesives…

In short my first impression is:

  • The “MicroPump” is actually smaller than I thought it would be. Check out the picture where I have a quarter and a chapstick in the frame for reference:
  • I wish the demo unit was more fully functional; I’d really like to see how all the pieces fit together. I will be able to test detaching the whole pump from the infusion set/cradle, but I won’t be able to separate the pump base from the reservoir.
  • I really really really hope Philly is part of the “limited geographic area” where Medingo will be loaning out Starter Kits to select patients and giving out free supplies (for about 90 days, they say) while they train their customer service reps. Unlikely, but hey—I can hope.
